He was very young but remembered the Dust Bowl Days and Black Sunday. It was hard times but everyone helped each other to survive.

His dad was a horseman and Gene followed in his footsteps, starting at age 3 riding. At 9, he and his dad rounded up cattle for shipping on the Big Ranches of the Barbies, Sizelove, Luckies and whoever needed them. Gene and his sister rode a horse to school or used a buggy. As he grew older, he went to harvest with his family. He loved being outside and was a hard worker.

In 1948 he met and married his wife, Ramona Green after 3months courtship that has lasted 69 years and 10 months. She was his soul mate, best friend and caregiver.

In 1951 daughter, Glenda Fay was born and in 1955 daughter, Roma Gene.

In 1957 they moved to Stillwater to be closer to his wife’s family. A week later he went to work for Lambert Construction and worked over 30 years.

The family bought a horse ranch I 1967 and boarded horses, broke and trained timed event horses. He also done his own shoeing. It was called the Rocking P Stables and that brand was held by the Price family for many years. He also raised registered longhorns.

The family helped with horse shows, Rodeos, and play days in all the area. Gene was a life time member of the Ripley Roundup Club.

The last few years, he and his wife went on may trail ride, wagon rides, and parades in several states. He enjoyed driving his horse and two wheeled cart or a team and wagon. Once a cowboy, always a cowboy!
