Michael Sumpter

Michael “Mike” Ray Sumpter, 45, of Stillwater, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 23rd at 2:00pm at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Lawson Cemetery in Yale, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22nd from 10:00am to 8:00pm with family greeting guest from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.

Mike was born on May 31, 1973 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Robert and Cathy (Driskel) Sumpter. He grew up in the Stillwater area and graduated from Glencoe High School in 1992. On July 25, 1992 he married his soul mate Joy Lynn Turner in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They celebrated 25 years of marriage. Mike started working at the City of Stillwater Sanitation Department right out of high school in 1992. He worked there from 1992 to 2007 when he transferred to the Street Department of the City of Stillwater, where he worked until 2010. Mike started working for Allied Waste (aka Republic Services) on February 14, 2012. Due to illness Mike had to retire from the job he loved dearly on April 20, 2018.

Mike is survived by his wife, Joy Lynn (Turner) of the home; three children, Hana Gayelynn, Clayton Michael, and Jacob Ray Sumpter all of the home; his parents, Robert and Cathy Sumpter; one brother, Darrel Sumpter and wife Amanda Jane of Stillwater; two sisters, Melinda (Sumpter) Mooreman and husband Nathan of Morrison, Oklahoma , Donna Sumpter and fiancé Jason Cavett of Glencoe, Oklahoma; one dog , Cowboy; and one grandpup, Tinkerbell and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Claude Driskel and Rachael Driskel, paternal grandfathers, Kenneth Sumpter and Bill Johnston.
