Alice L. Stewart

November 7, 1914 — June 15, 2011

Alice Louise Stewart passed away on June 15, 2011 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday June 20, 2011 at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. Alice was born to Jacob and Rose Hauck on November 7, 1914 near Utica, South Dakota. She graduated from Scotland, South Dakota High School in 1932, and later moved with her mother to Bakersfield, California. While in Bakersfield, she met Donald W.B. Stewart, and the two were later married in Pasadena, California on December 5, 1941, two days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. For several years they experienced relocations due to military service, during which time their first child, a son, was born. They then returned to Bakersfield in 1945, where two more children, both daughters, were born. In 1950, the family moved to Amarillo, Texas. Most of her years in Amarillo were spent as a homemaker, but she also worked for an employment agency, and helped operate a family candy and gift shop for several years. Alice moved to Stillwater in 2001 to be closer to family, and lived there until her death. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, a daughter, Alice Terese Stewart in 2002, and seven siblings. She is survived by two children and their spouses: Jeff and Joy Stewart of Stillwater, and Victoria and Anthony Scelba of West Paterson, New Jersey. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Andy and Brad Stewart; and by two great-grandchildren, Madison and Malcolm Stewart. The family asks that any memorials be given to Zion Lutheran Church in Stillwater.
