Beulah Behrens

June 22, 1923 — May 21, 2014

Beulah Faye (Correll) Behrens passed away on May 21, 2014, at 90 years of age in Edmond, OK. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follw at Mt. Hope cemetery north of Ripley on Highway 108. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Beulah was born on June 22, 1923, to Robert (Bert) Columbus Correll and Ada (May) Mullins Correll on the family farm northeast of Ripley, OK
Beulah attended first grade at Ripley Elementary School, then completed her education at the Bend School near her home where her father was on the school board.
On August 23, 1944, she married Raymond Leroy Behrens in Cushing, OK. To this union two children were born, Bobby Gene and Aliena May. Their marriage ended in divorce.
Beulahs parents opened a restaurant in Cushing called the OK Caf, which they operated for eight years. She was involved in all areas of the business.
Her parents later moved back to the farm. When her parents health began to deteriorate, Beulah and her family moved to the farm to help with the work.
After a couple of years, Beulah and her family moved into Ripley and opened Behrens General Store. When her parents health deteriorated further, they sold their business and moved back to the farm.
When Bobby joined Future Farmers of America, under the guidance of (and undying gratitude to) Bob Mitchell his ag instructor, he had registered Black Angus cattle for his project. Soon after, Aliena acquired a heifer, and this was the beginning of their family involvement in the Angus cattle business.
For many years, they had cattle at the fat stock shows in Cushing and the Payne County Fairs in Stillwater. Over the years, they won several First Place, Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and Grand Champion ribbons. Beulah was very instrumental in helping to accomplish this.
It was truly a family affair. Beulah and Raymond would take their camper and be prepared to stay until the event was over. The work was hard, but they enjoyed every minute of it. When Beulah would be preparing a meal in the camper, other Ripley kids who had exhibits there became family and grabbed plates. Other families would bring food to share, also. No one went hungry. Everyone helped each other. It was a wonderful time.
Beulah eventually went to work for Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at OSU. After that, she went to work for OSU in the housekeeping department before retiring.
In 1989, Beulah moved into Cushing. In 2003 after deteriorarting health, she moved into an assisted living facility in Edmond to be close to her daughter.
Beulah loved visiting with family and friends. She always had a smile on her face and had a great sense of humor. Everyone knew they were welcome.
Beulah was predeceased by her parents, her sister Lorine, her former husband, and her son Bobby.
She is survived by her daughter Aliena LaFollette and husband Robert of Oklahoma City, her grandchildren, Pamela Daun LaFollette Reagor and husband Todd of Edmond, OK, Robert (Rob) Wayne Lafollette, Jr. and wife Julie of Tuttle, OK, Gena Kay Behrens Howe and husband David of Tulsa, OK, Brian Gene Behrens and wife Candy of Sand Springs, OK, great-grandchildren, Zachary Martin LaFollette, Tyler James (T.J.)
