Delard Daily Low, 93, of Perry, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
A Grave Side Memorial at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019 with Martin Foster officiating. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton- Marler Funeral Home of Perry.
Delard was born January 6, 1926 in Edna, Oklahoma to the late Henry and Edna (Martin) Low.
Delard enlisted in the Army on January 6, 1944. He was assigned to the 305th infantry regiment, 77th Division in Japan. He drove a 2 ½ ton truck to haul military supplies and equipment from one installation to another. He did day and night driving in convoy and on long hauls. He served, maintained, and made emergency repairs to the vehicle operated. He was discharged in 1947 only to be called up again to serve during the Korean War.
Delard was considered to be a member of the “Greatest Generation.” Those men and women who stepped forward at a time our country was in the depth of a Great World War. They stepped forward to defend those principles and beliefs we hold dear. He received a Quilt of Valor on September 24, 2017.
Delard married Mary Lou (Irvin) on March 29, 1948, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. They lived in Bristow and Okmulgee before moving to Holdenville where they made their home for over fifty-five years.
Delard owned the G&L Auto Clinic in Holdenville where he was a well known mechanic. He was active in the local American Legion Post and Hughes County Sportsman Club. Delard and Mary Lou spent a lot of time camping at their favorite spots at several eastern Oklahoma lakes. He fished and hunted as long as his health let him.
Delard and Mary Lou moved to Perry in May 2013.
Delard enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He loved to play dominoes and cards (Pitch and Blitz). He made sure he had all the favorite flavors of ice cream in his freezer for the great-grandchildren when they came to visit. He enjoyed calling all his lady providers “girl friends” and giving them hugs.
Survivors include his daughter Helen Fuller and husband Johnny of Perry; son Montie Low and wife Linda of Norman. Grandchildren: Mickey Fuller and wife Rachelle, Roger Fuller and wife Mandy, Blake Fuller and wife Angie; Brian Low, Kevin Low and wife Jennifer, Amber Low, and Elizabeth Low and eleven Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents. 6 brothers—Harlan Low, Check Low, Wilbur Low, Gene Low, Jessie Low, Perry Joe Low; 1 sister Lanora Low and 2 half brothers R.K. Low and Arthur Low.
Memorials may be given to the American Legion Post or your favorite charity.
