Dewayne Everett Bourne

February 28, 1923 — August 12, 2014

DeWayne Everett Dee Bourne, a longtime resident of Stillwater, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Arrangements are under the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 2:00pm, Saturday, August 16, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater.
Dee was born in Sioux City, Iowa on February 28, 1923. His family later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he graduated from high school and was an Eagle Scout. After briefly attending the University of Nebraska, he enlisted in the Air Force and served with the 8th Air Force in England as a B-24 bombardier during WWII. After the war, he returned to Nebraska and completed his degree in business while active as a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
While at the University of Nebraska, Dee met Marilyn Swanson on a blind date. Dee and Marilyn were married in 1947 and Dee began a 35-year career with Sears serving as a catalog store manager for several cities, and then as a district manager, in Ponca City and Kansas City, Missouri overseeing Sears catalog stores in multiple states. In 1976, Dee and Marilyn moved to Stillwater. Dee retired from Sears four years later and worked part-time for the OSU Alumni Association and the Stillwater Credit Bureau. He was active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club, a past-president of the Stillwater Country Club, and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. He was an avid golfer, with three holes-in-one to his credit, and a staunch supporter of the OSU Cowboys. Working with both wood and stained glass, he enjoyed making gifts for family and friends.
Dee is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Linda Grant and husband, Marshall K. of Frisco, Texas, Christie Murray and husband, Tommy, of Ponca City. Dee was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren: Marshall D. Grant and wife, Ashley, of Irving, Texas, T.J. Murray and wife, Jennifer, of Oklahoma City, Stacy Coppock and husband, Bryan, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Clayton Murray of Oklahoma City. Most recently, Dee welcomed three great-grandchildren to his family: Quint and Ella Murray, and Tegan Coppock. Also surviving Dee are two nephews, Dr. Eugene Bourne and Sam Swanson, and two nieces, Kay Eggers and Katherine Valentino. The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Woody Jenkins for caring for Dee over the past few years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater, Oklahoma, 524 S. Duncan, Stillwater, OK 74074, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.pmcfh.com.
