Don Edward Lawson, of Stillwater, Oklahoma died on January 26th,2008 at the Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was 69.
Don was born on April 14th, 1938 in Falcon, Missouri to Milburn and Mary (Woolsey) Lawson. He grew up in the Ozark mountains near Lebanon, Missouri working on the family farm. He entered the United States Army in 1955 and served his country in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. After losing his arm in October of 1967 during combat in Vietnam he continued serving his country as a Drill Sergeant until 1975, when he finally retired.
He and his family then moved from Columbia, South Carolina to Stillwater where he began working in Real Estate and Security. During that time he also began a career as an Auctioneer and enjoyed it tremendously. In 1984 he began working in the security department of Mercruiser for Burns Security. A short time later he was promoted to Site Supervisor and held that rank until his death, he was the first and only person to hold that position the longest. In addition, he had a small brush hog business that he worked with his wife Margaret Lawson. Many people will no doubt remember him as the one armed guy on the green John Deere Tractor.
Don is survived by his wife Margaret Lawson of the home in Stillwater; three sons, Ricky Lawson of Stillwater, Mike McLafferty of Stillwater and Neddy McLafferty of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his sisters Joyce and Cathy Lawson of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren, Nathan, Tiffany, Danna, Christy, Scotty and Jacob; and two great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Milburn Lawson and Mary Woolsey.
Funeral Services for Mr. Lawson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning in the Chapel of the Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma with interment to follow on Thursday at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater.
