He grew up and attended school in Avoca, Pennsylvania. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and in 1944 he married his wife of over 60 yrs Loreen Hedges, who he met at a Women"s Air Command event. During his 20 yrs in the service, Ed worked in the Strategic Air Command as a bombsite mechanic and carpenter. His career with the Army Air Corp/Air Force allowed him to see the world. He served with the occupational forces in Japan and was stationed at various bases in the Philippines, Turkey, Labrador, Washington State, Savannah, GA, and finally Tinker Air Force Base, from which he retired as a Master Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge in the early 1960"s, Ed relocated to Red Rock, OK where he worked several years as a mechanic for Frank Glass. He then moved West to Perry, OK where he would spend 10+ years working as a mechanic for Noble County before accepting a position with ODOT, working as a mechanic until his retirement in 1982. After retiring, Ed spent his time hanging out and taking care of his family. He was a master craftsman and enjoyed making furniture for his wife and kids. He loved to fish, listen to polka music and Rush Limbaugh, and tinkering or working on one of his many various projects. The only thing that brought Ed more happiness than mowing the grass, which he did at least once a day, was hanging out and spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Ed Gutowski was a strict and strong willed man who was as strong as he was meticulous. He was a patriotic person who was very proud of his service to our country. Ed was a generous guy who was structured and straight forward. He was a man of integrity who always believed in following the rules and being honest. He loved a good joke and rarely missed a chance to play a practical joke on a friend or pull their leg. Ed"s kind demeanor made it easy for him to make friends and he enjoyed visiting with people. He was always up for a good argument about his views on the news of the day. Ed Gutowski was a good man who will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Loreen, and four siblings: Chester Gutowski, Anna Daniels, Helen Daniels and Julie Ostir. Ed is survived by his children: Sharon Boyd and husband Don of Perry and Susan Richardson and husband Lonny of Perry. Grandchildren: Craig Boyd and wife Lesa, Lisa Harman and husband Mark, Coby Boyd and wife Meliah, Travis Richardson, Dusty Boyd and wife Heather, and Jeff Richardson.
