Gardner William Colburn

Gardner William "Bill" Colburn 84, of Fairfax, Oklahoma died Monday, February 15, 2010 at Fairfax Manor. Bill was born in Hardy, Oklahoma on August 14, 1925 to Gardner William "G.W." and Flossie Mae (Salem) Colburn. He attended schools at Hardy and Grainola, Oklahoma. He started working as a young man at the Murphy Ranch near Grainola. He continued as a cowboy, ranch and farm hand working many large ranches in Osage County. He was employed with D. & P. Tank Service in Shidler and Ponca City retiring in 2000. Bill was an outdoorsman, loving all aspects of nature. He had many friends and enjoyed visiting with them. He liked fishing on the banks of local ranch ponds and lakes. Bill married Marion "Jerri" Smith on February 26, 1971 in Fairfax, Oklahoma. He became a father of four step-children. He had a lot of love and pride for his wife and his family. Carrying on his memory are his wife Jerri, Fairfax: his children, Deanna (Sadler) and Mike Kinizger of Deary, ID, Cheryl (Sadler) Bringham of Oklahoma City, and William and Brenda Sadler of Fairfax: brothers and sisters James "Newell" and Charlene Colburn of Arkansas City, KS, Emma Jean (Colburn) and Kenneth Ross, Euless, TX, Raleigh and Wanda Colburn, Newkirk, OK and Barbara "Carol" (Colburn) and Richard Hess of Clay, KY, special niece: Phyllis (Colburn) and Charles McClaflin, six grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Bill has also left behind three generations of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his brothers, Roy Thomas and John Clayton Colburn, one daughter, Kathy (Sadler) Potts, two nieces and 1 great niece. Memorial services have been scheduled for 1: 00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Fairfax V.F.W. Services have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 203 E. Fir, Perry, Oklahoma.
