George Heppler

George V. Heppler, 92, passed from this life on Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Oklahoma City surrounded by family. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 15, 2016 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday February 14, 2016 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm with family greeting friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. George was born on September 11, 1923 to George and Clara (Stalman) Heppler on the family farm Southeast of Perry. He attended school through the 8th grade and had a great love for school and learning. At the age of 18, George wanted to serve his country proudly in the United States Army. George served as a Glider Mechanic and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1946. George met the love of his life, Doris Lee Sheets, and married her on December 26, 1947. Once married, they moved to Ponca City and George took a job at a local Chevrolet car dealership for a short period. George was then hired at Conoco Oil Company and worked as a pump doctor until his retirement after 35 years in 1983. George and Doris raised three children Marilyn, Gerald, and Ken. George was always very proud and supported his children in anything they did and wanted them to have a good education. While retired, George built a home on the family farm in Perry. George was always passionate about gardening. He planted and grew more than 250 pecan trees at one time. He built a green house and spent many hours and was especially proud of his orchids. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. George is preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara (Stalman) Heppler, one brother, Harold Heppler; one sister, Clara Gottschalk. George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris L. Heppler of the home; three children, Marilyn Sattre and husband Ricki of Piedmont, OK, Gerald Heppler of Edmond, OK, Ken Heppler of Palm Springs, CA; three grandchildren, Richard Sattre and wife Tiffany, William Sattre and wife, Amanda, Matthew Sattre and wife Mellisa; three great-grandchildren, Myranda Sattre, Lane Sattre, and Trenton Sattre. Donations can be made in George"s name to the American Legion, in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home 203 E Fir Perry, OK 73077.
