Helen Louise Matoy

February 25, 1921 — December 14, 2011

Helen Louise Springer Matoy died Dec. 14, 2011, at the age of 90. Born in a tent in the oil fields near Eliasville, Texas, she was the youngest of five children of Levan and Ruby Springer. On April 16, 1942, she married Ray Roland Matoy, who survives her. They had four children: Raymond Monroe, who died an infant; Robert Levan Matoy of Saginaw, Mich.; Elizabeth Anne Matoy of Stillwater, and Linda Sue Rieser of New Glarus, Wis.

Helen and Ray lived in several communities during their 69 years of marriage. Married during WWII, they were stationed in Ga. and Ore. They then lived in Tulsa, Stillwater and Ponca City before moving to Heidelberg, Germany. Upon returning to the United States, they lived in Saginaw, Mich. and Madison, Wis. before retiring in Stillwater.

Helen was active in the Presbyterian Church and with several civic and volunteer organizations. She served as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and hospital volunteer. She was involved in Rotary Anns and served as the editor of the Payne County Historical Society Review. She was a member of the Payne County Womens Republicans Association and served as an election official. She enjoyed sewing, making crafts, fishing and making Christmas candy with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her spouse, Ray, and children, Bob, Anne, and Sue and their spouses: Gay Matoy, Mike Banks, and Bob Rieser. She has 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Heather and Clay Berger (Bella Vista, Ark.), Kirsten Matoy Carlson and Dwayne Jarman (Detroit, Mich.), Aaron Carlson (Stillwater), Kendra Carlson (Bentonville, Ark.), Alyson and Matt Lynch (Madison, Wis.), Russell and Kate Matoy (Atlanta, Ga.), Heidi and John Brey (Waupaca, Wis.), James Matoy (Saginaw, Mich.), Eric and Jenny Matoy (Orion, Mich.), Jason Matoy (Waterford, Mich.), Sarah Kalise and Ryan Horst (Oconomowoc, Wis.), and Lisa and Zach Bahr (Olathe, Kansas). There are 11 great grandchildren: Brooke Berger, Dayna Brey, Caroline Berger, Autumn Banks, Grace Jarman, Abigail Carlson, Caden Carlson, Payson Horst, William Jarman, Kaylee Bahr, and, Max Brey,.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. Condolences may be sent via an online guestbook at pmcfh.com or at facebook.com/pmcfh.
