Helen Soulek Nemec, 95, of Perry, passed from this life on Friday, September 21, 2012, surrounded by her family. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry and will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, Sept 25, 2012 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry. Public visitation will be held from 9am-8pm on Monday, Sept 24, 2012 at the funeral home and the family will greet friends from 6pm-8pm Monday evening.
Helen was born on April 15, 1917 in Mulvane, Kansas to John and Antonia Soulek. Her family came to Perry by train, with a load of cattle in 1923. Helen was raised and attended school in Perry and she has remained in Perry for over 90 years. In 1940, she married the love of her life, Stanly Nemec in Guthrie, Oklahoma. On March 13, 1943 the couple had their first child, John Nemec and on May 3, 1947, Helen gave birth to her daughter, Jeanie Nemec. On August 9, 1977, Helen lost her husband and best friend, Stanly, after nearly forty years of marriage.
Helen Nemec spent the majority of her life as a farmer and homemaker; she was very proud of this fact. She was baptized at a young age into the United Methodist Church, but most recently was involved in the Wednesday evening Bible study hosted by Calvary Baptist Church at Perry Green Valley Nursing Home. She was also a member of the Sunnyview Homemakers Club.
Helen loved sewing, canning, gardening, and cooking her famous pink fluff jello cake. She was an extremely generous woman who always enjoyed taking care of others. She was ornery and very independent. Helen was never happier than when she was spending time with her family. Although she will be missed, her legacy of love and selflessness will be carried on by the four generations of family that she leaves behind. Helen passed from this life on Friday, September 21, 2012 at the age of 95.
Helen Nemec is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanly, two brothers: Ted and Joe Soulek, and four sisters: Minnie Curran, Bess Tearney, Mary Zavodney, and Josie Zavodney and a great-great grandson Cameron Nemec. She is survived by her Children: John Nemec and wife Marilyn, of Perry and Jeanie McNabb and husband Gary, of Perry.
