Hugh Kenneth Hedger

January 18, 1920 — July 10, 2009

Hugh K. Hedger was born January 18, 1920, in Idabel, OK to Howard R. Hedger and Kara (Spurrier) Hedger and passed away July 10, 2009 in Stillwater, OK at the age of 89. He earned a BS. at Oklahoma A&M and an MS from Oklahoma State University. He served as a pilot in the Air Force during WWII. After completing his military obligations he went to work as a Tulsa County Agent. He then went to work for the Point Four Program in Ethiopia, Africa for 5 years. After returning from Ethiopia, he went to work for Oklahoma County as a County Agent in Horticulture. Later he started the Horticulture Department at OSU-OKC where he retired as Head of the Horticulture Department.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Gregg) Hedger of 66 years, 2 daughters Kara Kirschner and Laura Jeane Flesner and son-in-law, and Karl Schmid who was looked upon as a son, 4 grandchildren, Nick Malone, Chris Martin, Elizabeth Flesner and Dawn Swart, 3 great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Connor and Login. Also survived are 3 brothers, Jo Ed Hedger, George Hedger and Richard Hedger, and numerous aunts. uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents and two sisters, Levica Chapman and Margaret Hedger.
Family will greet friends from 9:00-10:00 and 2:00-6:00 at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater, OK on Wednesday, July 15th and 9:00-10:00 and 2:00-6:00 at Paylor Funeral Home in Midwest City on Thursday, July 16th.
His Memorial Service will be at 10 am, Saturday July 18 at Wickline United Methodist Church, 417 Mid-America Blvd. in Midwest City, OK. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hugh Hedger Horticulture Scholarship Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, and Wickline United Methodist Church.
