James Archie Harper

James A. Harper, 92, of Mulhall, went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2010 in Perry, OK. Services have been entrusted to the care of Perry Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate James" life will be held Saturday, Oct 2nd at 2:00 at the Vassar Church in Mulhall, OK with Pastor Ralph Yost officiating. James was born December 19, 1917 on a farm near Girard, KS. He moved to Mulhall, OK when he was 3 yrs old. James lived on the same farm near Mulhall until his death. As a child, James walked 2 " miles to Cedar Vale School until the district consolidated with Mulhall Public Schools. After graduating from Mulhall High School, James attended OK State University. In 1942, Mr. Harper Joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served honorably as a gunner in a bomber squadron in the European Theater until his discharge in 1945. After leaving the service, James returned home to Mulhall where he farmed and raised cattle and hogs. James had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed hunting in Colorado, building ponds, and growing a community watermelon patch. He was also a dedicated member of Vassar Church. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his military buddies and helping anyone in need. The family would like to thank all those in the community who befriended James. He was loved and admired by his friends and family and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice in James" honor.
