James Larry McCallister, 52 of Guthrie, OK passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 27, 2016 in Stillwater, OK. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for 11AM Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Jones Assembly of God in Jones, OK. Interment will immediately follow at Jones IOOF cemetery.
James was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He met his wife Angela in high school and married and had their first child soon after that. This year they were married for 34 years. They enjoyed traveling and living in many different states, a few of their favorites were Idaho, Arizona and Nevada. They eventually wound up setting their roots in Oklahoma to be closer to their families.
He was the best dad a little girl could have. He loved to coach his children in softball. He was a very loving and protective father when it came to his daughters. He loved the holidays and his family very much. Soon after his daughters became young women he was blessed with becoming a grandfather. He was so excited for the first born grandchild because he was the first boy introduced to the family, as they had a great bond as he loved him like a son. He loved attending all of his grandchildrens baseball, football or basketball games every chance he got. He was an avid OU fan, but enjoyed watching any college team play, especially OU and OSU, Boomer Sooner! He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and anything outdoors. On most Sundays you could catch him watching NASCAR on TV. He loved Jeff Gordon. He was also a classic rock & roll kind of man who enjoyed attending concerts when he could.
He is survived by his wife Angela and was the father of 5 strong willed girls who he loved more than they will ever know. They include; Christina McCallister of Langston, OK, Elizabeth Smith and husband Dustin of Stillwater, OK, Vanessa McCallister and special friend Zac Clymer of Guthrie, OK, Laura McCallister and special friend Anthony Roberson of Stillwater, OK, and Jamie Gellenbeck and husband Steven of Guthrie, OK. James cherished his grandchildren very much. His grandchildren include; Chassidy Milton, Angelique Layva, DeOmi Scott, ChaNelle McCallister, Destiny Smith, Ethan McCallister, Jace McCallister, Izzabella McCallister, Aireona Clymer, William Clymer, Hayden Clymer, Jazmine McCallister, Austin Gellenbeck, and Jayden Gellenbeck. James went by many names but the ones he enjoyed hearing the most were daddy and papa. James was also survived by his two sisters; Margueritta Campbell and Maryanne Chapman both of Marietta, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother William McFall.
Pallbearers will be Zac Clymer, Austin Gellenbeck, Anthony Roberson, Steven Gellenbeck, James Jonota and Eric Nimsey. Honorary pallbearers will be William Clymer, Jayden Gellenbeck, Hayden Clymer, Ethan and Jace McCallister
