James Woodrow Lee

September 30, 1916 — January 6, 2007

Mr. James Woodrow Woody Lee passed away on January 6, 2007 at the age of 90 years at his home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Woody was born to the family of Ad Lee and Grace Albright Lee on September 30, 1916 in Red Lake Community south of Portales, New Mexico, The family moved to Portales in 1925 where he attended, and graduated from Portales High School. Mr. Lee served his country faithfully during WWII in the United States Army, and was seriously injured by enemy fire while repairing communication lines in Germany. He received the Purple Heart among other medals. He worked at the local Casing Plant as an accountant until his retirement. He was also a bookkeeper at Steve Dean Automotive for a number of years. Woody was a member of the American Legion and a member of the VFW Post #0031. Woody took Miss Marie Briggs as his bride on March 18,1939 in Portales, New Mexico. Woody loved to fish, camp, boat and enjoyed working with wood. He was a dedicated sports fan. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Mexico and also a member of the Woodman of the World. Woody was known best for his love of children. His giving reached many children in the United States. In late 2001, Woody and Marie moved to Stillwater to be near their medical doctors, and a niece Judy Hasik where he resided until his death. He loved his family and was dedicated to the betterment of all.
Although Woody is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends he leaves behind which include: 2 Sisters: Ruth Moren and Ila Faye Widener of Portales, New Mexico, 1 Niece: Judy Hasik of Stillwater and 1 great niece: Amber Teeman of Stillwater, OK and 1 Great Nephew: D.J. Gall of Owasso, Ok. and a host of other relatives and long time friends.
Woody is preceded in death by his wife: Marie Lee, his parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. In Lieu of flowers, all memorials will be made to Judith Karman Hospice 915 S Main/ PO Box 818 Stillwater, Oklahoma 74076 or Calvary Baptist Church, 1101 W 18th Portales New Mexico 67801. or Baptist Children Home at 2200 S Ave. I, Portales, New Mexico 88130.
A memorial services will be Friday at 11:00am, January 19, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church 1101 W 18th in Portales New Mexico.
