Jerry Osborn

September 5, 1948 — February 27, 2014

Jerry Osborn, 65, of Morrison, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Stillwater Medical Center with his family by his side. Memorial services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry, and will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 1, 2014, in the chapel of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, with Rev. Kent Ritchie officiating. Jerry was born September 5, 1948, in Shawnee, OK to Bill and Katheryn (Olive) Osborn. He was raised and attended schools in the Ada, OK area, graduating from Latta High School in 1967. Following graduation, Jerry enlisted in the US Air Force where he worked as a generator mechanic and was stationed in the Philippines. On leave in 1969, Jerry married Sandra Sturdivan at Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Ada, OK. The couple spent the next 18 months stationed at Mountain Home, ID before returning to Ada in the early 1970s. While living in Ada, Jerry worked for a local filling station and attended classes at East Central University. Jerry later accepted a position with the Oklahoma Gas and Electric, a job that he would hold for over 30 years. In the early 1990s OG&E transferred him to the Sooner Power Station near Red Rock and the family made their home in the town of Morrison, OK. In the mid 1990s Jerry retired and began working as a long-haul bus driver for Oklahoma State University, driving "The B.O.B." big orange bus for the university athletic department. During his 5 year career with the university, he also assisted the university in fleet maintenance on the buses. After Jerry retired from OSU he had plenty of time to enjoy his many hobbies. He was a skilled woodworker who could make just about anything. He used his abilities to assist in the restoration and remodeling of his parents home. He had a lifelong obsession of trying to take things apart so that he could try to put them back together and see how they worked. During his younger years, Jerry was an avid fisherman, an active traveler, and a member of the Ada Oddfellows. His profound love for the Lord led him all over the world spreading the gospel on mission trips. Jerry was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Morrison and he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Perry. Jerry was a kind and generous man who always put others needs above his own. He was quiet, ornery, and had a dry sense of humor. He was a perfectionist, a loyal husband, a dependable friend, and a hardworking employee. He will be missed by all who knew him. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Katheryn Osborn and a brother Johnny Osborn. He is survived by his wife Sandra, of the home; his father Bill Osborn, of Ada, OK; a brother Jack Osborn and Joann, of Commerce, OK. The family has requested that donations be made in Jerry"s name to the Boy"s Ranch Town Baptist Boy"s Home in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home 203 Fir Street. Perry, OK 73077.
