March 13, 1938 — November 30, 2013

Willie Joe Doty departed this life for Heaven on Saturday, November 30, 2013 in his home surrounded by family. Joe was born in Connerville, OK on March 13, 1938 and was raised by Valentine Aaron (V.A.) and Achsa (Everett) Doty. He grew up in Stillwater, graduating from Stillwater High School in 1956. After high school, Joe attended Oklahoma A&M. In 1957, Joe chose to leave school and serve his country by joining the U.S. Marines, Joe was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1963.
While in the service, Joe married the love of his life, Phyllis Absher on October 9, 1959 in Stillwater. They resided in the Stillwater area for the greater part of their lives. Joe worked in the carpentry business and built many of the houses and buildings in Stillwater, including Tiger Drug, the deck at Boomer Lake, as well as 100s of homes and residential deck projects in Stillwater. Joe also worked in the security departments for Stillwater National Bank and Mercury Marine. He was also a frequent volunteer for the Pawnee Tribal Police Dept and a charter member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Stillwater.
When Joe wasnt working he had many hobbies to fill his time, including creating parts for Mercury Marine, designing parts for the LT5 motor in race boats, and designing and building motorized toys for his children and grandchildren. He was also a gifted vocalist, violinist, and he wrote wonderful and inspirational poetry.
Joe was a large man with a heart that much bigger than he was. His passion was his family, but his first love was his relationship with Jesus Christ. Joe had a tender heart and he used his approachable demeanor to share the hope he found in the Lord with friends and strangers who were going through tough times. He was an independent man who always looked for the best in others. Joe loved to make others smile. He had a way of lightening the mood and making others comfortable during difficult situations by telling a well-timed joke and his smile could light up a room.
Joe was a loving husband, a generous father, protective grandfather, a strong Christian man, and a resourceful helper anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
