Juanita Emery Smith, 86, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2013 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Services with Owen Cayton and Gary Layman presiding will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
She was born July 23, 1926 in her parents farm house near Clarksville in Red River County, Texas.
Her parents were Willie Robert and Ruby Pearl Emery. She married Johnnie M. Smith of Clarksville, September 6, 1942.
She was an active member of First Christian Church in Stillwater having worked in CFW and team taught her Sunday school class many years. She was a member of the Christian Church for nearly 70 years.
After her late husband, Johnnie, sold his business at the age of 50, they served as missionaries to Spanish speaking people at Colegio Biblico in Eagle Pass, Texas. In retirement the couple moved to Stillwater to be near their oldest daughter and her husband, Jackie and Johnny Griffin as well as many other family members.
After her marriage during WWII her only career was helping her husband, Johnnie, on their dairy farm in Clarksville, Texas, milk distributor business in Crane, Texas and then missionary in Eagle Pass, Texas. She considered her most important career as Mother raising five children and a younger sister. Johnnie and Juanita celebrated 60 years of marriage shortly before his death in November 2002.
She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren with one of her favorite scriptures being Psalm 127, Children are a reward from God, blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and one sister, Carolyn Mullen.
She is survived by a brother, Don Emery of Pittsbury, TX, three daughters, Jackie Griffin and her husband Johnny of Stillwater, Sherry Pomroy and her husband Eddy of Odessa, TX, Joni Tooke and her husband, Dexter of Del Rio, TX. Two sons, Joel and his wife Mary Beth of Granbury, TX, Scott Smith and his wife Jenifer of Burleson, TX, a daughter-in-law, Kay Houston Smith and a brother-in-law, Bill Mullen of Stillwater. 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Cody Griffin and Denice, Lisa Bliss, Timm Bliss, Shelly Ricci and Chris, Brad, Stephen and Jesse Smith, Todd Pomroy and Mandy, Hunter Pomroy and Valerie, Brandon Smith and Brandi, Jennifer Cassac, Becky Cassac and Dirk. 14 great-grandchildren: Chris Griffin and his wife Marie, Justin Griffin, Tasha Bliss, Cole, Madison and Chase Pomroy, Emery and Brylynn Pomroy, Bella Ricci, Lilly and Logan Fuller, Elliot and Zoe and Jude Emery. 2 great-great grandchildren: Caitlin and Aurora Griffin. Two special friends who helped her in her final days: Jessi Duke Shouse and Melissa Gilmore.
Pallbearers will be Burl Carrier, Ellis McHendry, Gary Varnell, Bill Holloway, Wayne Smith and Jim Solick.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 411 West Mathews, Stillwater, OK 74075.
