Katherine Jean Mason

Katherine Mason, 82, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in Perry, Oklahoma. Perry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral services which will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the Church of Christ in Perry. Interment will follow at Morris Heights Cemetery in Orlando, Oklahoma. Public visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 9am to 4pm and Friday from 9am to 8pm. The family will greet friends at Perry Funeral Home from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, December 31. Katherine was born on October 31, 1928 in Jenks, Oklahoma to the late Roy Dougherty and Louise Kate (McCracken) Dougherty. She grew up in the Davenport area, graduating high school there. She attended the University of Oklahoma before moving back to Davenport. In 1961 she moved to Pampa, Texas where she met and married the love of her life Howard Mason. They were married on November 14, 1962. The couple owned and operated Mason"s Caf" which was famous for its chili. Howard preceded her in death on January 10, 1986 after 24 years of marriage. The main purpose of Katherine"s life was to spread love and share the word of God. She never met a stranger and touched everybody that she met. She was a member of the Perry Church of Christ for over forty years. In her spare time she enjoyed woodworking, landscape painting, writing poetry, sewing, playing piano, and especially spending time with her family. Katherine is survived by her children Royal and wife Earlene Mendenhall, Randall and wife Connie Mendenhall, Roger Mendenhall, Kathy Mason Ewy and husband Rusty, Steven Derek Mason and wife Rhonda Gayle, Karen Mason; grandchildren Mariah Ewy, Tiara Ewy, Jennifer Farrar, Sarah Brien, Amanda Zemp, Lane Mason, Michala Wilson, Rick Mendenhall II, Roy Mendenhall, Evelyn Shay, David Mendenhall, Elisha Mendenhall, Ginger Mendenhall, and Rita Mendenhall; fifteen great grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband Howard, Katherine was preceded in death by son Rick Mendenhall, two brothers, Johnny Carpenter, and Jack Crabtree, and two sisters, Jessy Crabtree and Vivian Crabtree. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Knecht for his care, Green Valley Nursing Home, and the nurses at Perry Memorial Hospital.
