Kenton Dale "K.D." Hoisington

March 8, 1935 — September 3, 2020

Kenton Dale (K.D.) Hoisington, horseman, welder, farmer, husband, father, follower of Christ and friend to all, went home on September, 2020, at the age of 85.

K.D. was born near Ames, Oklahoma, on March 8, 1935, to Howard and Juanita Hoisington on the farm his family settled following the Cherokee Land Run. From an early age, he had a flair for everything mechanical and everything equestrian. His love for his horses and for John Deere tractors was only exceeded by his love for his high school sweetheart, Marietta Huff. He was president of his Senior class and graduated from Ames High School in 1953, where he excelled in the Future Farmers of America organization. K.D. earned the Oklahoma FFA’s highest degree, that of Junior Master Farmer, during the State FFA Convention. Later in life he received another FFA award, The Honorary Chapter Farmer degree from the Agra FFA chapter. Following graduation K.D. owned the Texaco station in downtown Ames, where he worked until he and Marietta married in 1955.

Shortly after their marriage, K.D. and Marietta left Major county and purchased a farm east of Tryon, OK. Here they built a home, raised four children, farmed, bred Arabian horses, and established K.D.’s Welding. The couple quickly became active members at First Baptist Church, Agra, OK, where K.D. served as song leader for 58 years with Marietta at his side as the church pianist.

K.D. worked for John Deere for many years and each year attended John Deere School. His subsequent employment was as a pipe welder and he worked across eight states. K.D. was an excellent welder and expert machinery mechanic, particularly John Deere.

K.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Juanita Hoisington; infant sister, Alta Jean Hoisington; brother, Kenneth Hoisington; and grandsons, Caleb Whittall and Ben Ballard.

He is survived by his wife, Marietta Hoisington; son, Dale Hoisington and wife Pam; son, Craig Hoisington and wife Kim; daughter, Sandy Whittall and husband Randy; son, Chris Hoisington and wife Tammy; 9 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30am, Monday, September 7, 2020 at Ames Cemetery in Ames, OK. The family requests that masks be worn throughout the service and that social distancing be observed. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Building Fund - PO Box 129, Agra, Oklahoma 74824.
