LaVeta Mae Shackelford, 72, a Stillwater resident passed from this life on Saturday, February 12, 2011. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Lost Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor Max Rudd presiding. Burial will follow at Perkins Cemetery. LaVeta was born to Isaac and Cecilia (Thornsberry) Stephens on January 12, 1939 in Carney Oklahoma. She was married to Bob Shackelford on September 1, 1974 in Reno, Nevada. She was a cook for the sorority houses at Oklahoma State University, through Keystone Foods. LaVeta was active in the Moose Lodge for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and spent many days out on the lake with her husband and family. She loved hosting family dinners, especially around the holidays. She also enjoyed card games and bowling. In addition to her parents LaVeta was preceded in death by her husband Bob, older sister Vivian Brake, and twin sister Coeta Robertson, and brother Eural Eugene. LaVeta is survived by her children John Shackelford and wife Lila of Stockton, CA, Kenneth Goforth of Stillwater, Robin Robinson of Stockton, CA, Vickie Goforth of Portersville, CA, Lynn Arnold and husband Gary of Stillwater, Kathy Stevens and husband Dan of Stockton, CA, Debbie Shackleford of Stockton, CA, and Janet Jarvis and husband Rick of Perkins; brothers and sisters Arlene Story and husband Corbett of Shawnee, Don Stephens and wife Ethel of Sacramento, CA, Bob Stephens and wife Jerri of Cushing; June Osborn of Stillwater, Colleen McBride of Carney, and Kathy Beshears of Stillwater; 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Contributions may be made to Judith Karmen Hospice in the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Friends may leave condolences for the family via an online guestbook at www.pmcfh.com
