Leota Irene (Gartz) Talley, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Stillwater, OK on March 20, 2017. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday March 23, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, OK. Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 22, 2017 from 9:00a.m. to 8:00p.m. with the family greeting guests from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater, OK.
She was born November 5, 1921 in Belmond, Iowa to Fredrick Gartz and Henryetta Kathryn (Schmidt) Gartz Hake. After graduating from Belmond high school, Lee taught school and later worked in Kansas City, Missouri for Trans World Airlines. She joined the Marine Corps during World War II afterward She met her husband, Ernest Talley, and they lived in Belmond, Iowa. They later moved to Enid, Oklahoma and then to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1960 where she worked in the dean of agricultures office for 18 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and held office in the United Methodist Women. She was an avid reader, loved flower gardening and belonged to a Canasta Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, three sisters, two brothers, her husband Ernest and an infant son.
She is survived by two sons, Max Talley and wife Mary of Stillwater, Steven Talley and wife Carla Of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Lisa Sparks and husband Ricky of Tulsa and Leslie Talley of San Mateo, California.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to First United Methodist Church C/O Palmer Marler Funeral Home at 5106 N. Washington Stillwater, OK 74075.
