Mabel Staley

Nora Mabel (Potter) Staley passed from this life on April 8, 2011 in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the age of 94. Funeral Services will be held at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Glencoe South Cemetery. Mabel was born May 13, 1916 on the old Potter Place south of Pawnee and attended Pawnee schools. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Francis Potter and Mary Alice (Whitlow) Potter, older half sister, Flossie Callis Wells, and younger brother, Henry Clarence Potter. Mabel is survived by sons Donald Staley of Glencoe, Joe Staley and Sheila of Stillwater, and daughter Carol Gattenby Burroughs and Don of Garland, TX. Grandchildren: Donald Wayne Staley and Carolyn of Newcastle, Gary Staley of Oklahoma City, Jack Darren Gattenby of Carrollton, TX, Cary Gattenby of Garland, TX, Paul Gattenby and Elaine of Allen, TX, Angela Staley Wilburn and Kerry of Bixby, Jason Staley of Oklahoma City, and Scott and Sean Staley of Stillwater. Great Grandchildren: Brandon Staley of Oklahoma City, Ashley Gattenby Gonzales and Douglas of Fort Stewart, Georgia, Erin Gattenby Bean and Gary of Plano, TX, Trevor Gattenby of Dallas, TX, Jacquelyn Gattenby and fianc Ben Luckett of Garland, TX Isaac, Nicole and Carlen Gattenby of Allen, TX, Joshua and Dillon Wilburn of Bixby, and Jaren Staley of Edmond. Great Great Grandson, Dylan Bean of Plano, TX. Sister-In-Law Lorene Potter of Ardmore, and many other relatives and friends. As a teenager, Mabel was a trick rider in Pawnee Bills Wild West Show. She was twelve years old when her mother died. Mabel was married to Evert Staley from 1936 to 1966. She was a seamstress for much of her life. She lived on farms west and east of Glencoe. At age 49, she moved to Dallas and worked for Varo Semi-Conductor and Texas Instruments for 16 years. She moved back to Stillwater in 1981. At age 75, she started taking care of grandsons, Scott, now 19 and Sean, now 16, while their parents worked. Finally having the time to enjoy being a grandma (Mimi). Mabel lived a full, active, and long life. She loved dancing, sewing, cooking, gardening, her family and just being alive. She spent her final two years and four months at Westhaven Nursing Home. Her family thanks the staff, nurses, and aides for the love and care they gave her. Casketbearers will be her eight grandsons and one granddaughter.
