Marlene Janell Hafner, 85, of Orlando, Oklahoma went to be with her Savior on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Primrose Retirement in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 9am to 8pm with family greeting guests from 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 10:30am at the United Methodist Church in Orlando, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton Marler Funeral Home of Perry.
Marlene Janell Hafner was born in Orlando, Oklahoma on January 4, 1937, to Adolph and Adeline (Emde) Seeliger. She was the youngest of six siblings and they were a very close farm family. She grew up and attended schools at Orlando, Oklahoma, graduating from Orlando High School in 1955. Three days after Christmas in 1954, Marlene married the love of her life and her high school sweetheart Bill Hafner at the Evangelical United Brethern Church in Orlando. The following Valentine’s Day, Bill left for US Army basic training at Ft. Chaffee, AR while Marlene stayed behind to finish her schooling and joined him at Ft. Hood, Texas the following year.
In 1957, Bill and Marlene returned to the Orlando area and in the late 50’s they purchased their current farm south of town. Bill and Marlene spent the next 50+ years growing wheat, alfalfa, raising cattle and three children on the family farm. Marlene spent her days as a busy housewife, working farm partner, Mother, and best seamstress ever. She learned her ability to sew at an early age from her mother and put it to good use the remainder of her life by sewing for her loved ones, and eventually quilting like her mother had done, leaving behind many treasures for friends and loved ones. After the children were grown, she embarked on her next career working for Dr. Kelly Brown, DDS in Guthrie until she later retired. Whatever she was doing she put her all into it and made lifelong friends along the way. All who knew her can’t help but smile remembering that quick wit and beautiful smile. She enjoyed being a mother, loved being a grandmother, and had an extra special affinity for being great-grandma, or GiGi as she liked to be called and will be missed by all who knew her.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Adeline (Emde) Seeliger; brothers Lawrence Seeliger, wife Margaret; Clair Seeliger and wife Marilyn; Norman Seeliger and wife Lois; Glen Seeliger; and infant sister Mildred Marie Seeliger. She is survived by her three children, Wayne Hafner and wife Carla of Orlando; Mildred “Ditty” Hafner of Guthrie; and Kevin Hafner and wife Michelle of El Reno; brother Harlen Seeliger and wife Kaye of Ardmore, OK; sister in law Margaret Seeliger of Perry, Ok; brother in law Johnny and DeAnn Hafner of Orlando, sister in law Sandy Hafner of Tulsa, Ok; seven grandchildren, Mike and Niesha Hafner of Stillwater; Jenne and Bryan Pool of Mulhall; Brooke and Brandon Griffin of Fort Worth, Texas; Brent Blackburn of Tulsa, Ok; Jace and Justine Hafner of Lucas, Texas; Bailey Hafner Anderson of Oklahoma City, OK; Tanner and Darcy Hafner of Wray, Colorado; twelve great grandchildren, Daegan Pool, Maison Pool, Eme Pool, Quinn Clifton, Caroline Hafner, Brody Hafner, Kaden Ripley, Knox Hafner, Oakley Hafner, Swade Hafner; Harrison Anderson; Scarlett Anderson; numerous nieces and nephews and Gene Leach, her lifelong friend and neighbor who she enjoyed sharing lifelong memories and dinner with after she lost Bill.
To the special caregivers and friends she made at Primrose Retirement and Companion Hospice, thank you for your loving kindness and wonderful care. She loved you all dearly and the family and loved ones will forever be grateful for everything you did for our mother and GiGi. May God bless each of you.
