Melba Teakell

September 16, 1929 — January 4, 2011

Louise Melba Teakell died on January 4, 2011 at Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Sunnybrook Christian Church with Rev. Paul Anderson presiding. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater have been entrusted with the arrangements.
Louise Melba Teakell was born on September 16, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward and Hazel Hamel. They moved to Illinois when Mrs. Teakell was 10 years old. She attended schools there and worked at several banks and airline companies in Chicago, IL.
She owned and flew her own plane. She also worked in the music business and taught piano accordion. After moving to San Antonio, TX, she married John R. Teakell on February 23, 1952. They had three children: Lou Ann Killough, John R. Teakell, and Tammy Jo Will. She returned to employment in 1965 at the Seminole County Treasurer Office and in 1966 she was employed at the Department of Human Services as a social worker for the State of Oklahoma. She retired October 1, 1990, with 24 years of service to the state. She was a people person and active in her church. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting and made quilts for all her family. Her friends were also a great joy to her.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou Ann Killough and husband Dave of Martinez, GA; son, John R. Teakell, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Southlake, TX; and daughter Tammy Jo Will and husband Randy of Morrison. Her Grandchildren are DeAnna and Jeremy Brubaker, Angela and Brad Belcher, Maddie Teakell, Georgia Teakell, Adam Braly, Aaron Braly, and Andrea Jo Braly; two great grandchildren Hazel Brubaker and Annaleigh Belcher and a brother, Robert Hamel of Port Charlotte, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Hamel.
Her Lord was very close to her. She leaves many, many wonderful friends.
