Melva Kay (Thompson) Edgar

Melva K. (Thompson) Edgar, age 84, lifelong Perry resident passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Perry. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Perry.
Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home. Family will greet guests from 6PM to 8PM. A Celebration of Melva’s life will be 10AM Friday, December 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Perry with Pastor Kim Hays officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be E.J. Edgar, Erik Edgar, Phillip Forest, Madden Edgar, Jarod Burns, and Corey Edgar.
Melva was born August 1, 1934 in Red Rock, OK, to James T. and Elva Mae (Musick) Thompson. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1952. On June 27, 1952 she married Earl Eugene Edgar in Perry where they made their home and raised their three children. He preceded her in death in 2010.
Melva was well known in Perry as one of the best Seamstresses around. Tailoring different garments for weddings, band recitals, Christmas plays, twirling and cheer leader uniforms, plus she could also decorate wedding cakes. No pattern or project was ever too difficult for her. Love and enjoyment were hidden in every stitch. She could whip up one of her girls a dress in a days’ time.
Melva was a member of the First Baptist Church in Perry. She loved her family very much and always looked forward to spending time with her children and grandchildren, sharing stories and making memories that will last a lifetime. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children, Gwen Johnson and husband Gordon, and Bob E. Edgar and wife Nancy all of Perry, OK; nine grandchildren, E.J. Edgar(April) of Blackwell, OK, Erik Edgar(Tarah) of Perry, OK, Phillip Forest(Precy) of Perry, OK, Sharlotte Carey and fiancé David Buffington of Perry, OK, Kim Palmer(Gary) of Cantonment, FL, Chelsea Burns(Jarod) of El Reno, OK, Katelyn Tanimoto of Oklahoma City, OK, Shannon Fisher(Brett) of Woodbridge, VA, and Shawn Tanimoto of Wilburton, OK; seven great-grandchildren, Merik Edgar, Maysa Edgar, Madden Edgar, Emory Edgar, Maely Edgar, Braylen Burns, and Kenzley Burns; two sisters, Lila Bay and Donna King both of Perry, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kay Edgar; siblings, Virginia Tucker, Orin Thompson, Dorsie Beier, Gene Thompson, Darlene Lumber, Glenda Buchanan, Eldon Pat Thompson, and baby girl Thompson; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Jess Edgar.
