Mildred R. (Cruse) Mercer

June 1, 1915 — October 10, 2009

Mildred R. Cruse Mercer was born on June 1, 1915 southwest of Perkins to Charles B. and Mary J. (Lowry) Cruse and was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 16, 2009 at the age of 94 years. Mildred said that she began her schooling with her mother by learning how to cook, clean, sew and help take care of her family. She attended Perkins schools. She married Fleet Mercer on May 22, 1935 at the Payne County Courthouse. Mildred worked at the S&H Green Stamp Store in Stillwater for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1972. When asked what her greatest accomplishment in life was, her answer was always her family. She enjoyed many activities such as sewing for her grandchildren and friends and teaching simple sewing techniques to beginners. Although she was unable to go to church, she read her Bible daily and watched various Christian programs on Sunday mornings. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter Sonja Gail Wade and one son Royce G. Mercer, one sister Mary F. Fulton, brothers Charles B. Cruse Jr., Paul F. Cruse, John F. Cruse, Fred C. Cruse and Wrex Cruse of Yamill Oregon. Mildred is survived by two grandchildren Shawn (Mercer) and Timothy Crain of Perkins, OK; Devin and Robin (Axton) Mercer of Perkins, OK, three great grandchildren Misty Mercer, Britny Jarvis, Cailee Mercer and two great great grandchildren, Noah Jarvis, and Maira Chavez, one brother Garvin Cruse and his companion Violet Macklin, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00pm Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Perkins Cemetery with Pastor Charles Wall officiating. Arrangements have been trusted to the care of Perry Funeral Home. A potluck luncheon will he held at 11:00 at the Perkins Masonic Lodge, 915 E Kirk. Everyone is welcome to come and share their memories of Mildred with her family and friends.
