Minnie Marie Johnson passed away Monday, March 3, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the age of 91.
Final care has been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date.
Marie was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 3, 1925, to William Hubert Wester and Minnie Mae (Lowe) Wester. She grew up in Tuttle, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school. She later attended the University of Oklahoma where she met and married George Robert Johnson from Oklahoma City. In 1948 they moved to Borger, Texas with Georges position with Phillips Petroleum Company. Their first residence was an apartment over the bowling alley, and Marie helped to set bowling pins to earn a little extra money.
Marie and George moved to Edisto Beach, S.C. upon Georges retirement. They later moved to Green Valley, AZ and finally settled in Stillwater in 2000 to be near their daughter.
Marie loved to bowl and play various card games including Duplicate Bridge, Skipbo, and Gin Rummy. She took up golf in her early 60s to keep from becoming a golf widow. She did not hesitate to tell everyone that even though she couldnt hit her drives or irons very far, she was a very good putter. Marie was also an animal lover and spoiled her Pomeranians through the years.
Marie and George was married for 66 years until his passing in October, 2014. Marie was also preceded in death by an infant twin sister. Marie is survived by her daughter Marti Gay Johnson of Stillwater; son, Robert William Johnson; and granddaughter, Jennifer Lindsay Johnson Both of Greenville, S.C.; sister-in-law Joan Bake of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and a nephew.
Donations can be made to the Humane Society of Stillwater or the American Cancer Society.
