Oma Marie Nation

June 13, 1945 — April 26, 2013

Oma Marie Austin Robbins Nation, 67 of Perkins, OK went home to be with Jesus on April 26, 2013. After a very quick and aggressive battle with cancer, Oma left this world and her loving family and friends. A celebration of life service is planned for Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Palmer Marler Funeral Chapel in Perkins, OK.
Oma was born June 13, 1945 to Edward Austin and Pearl Bea (Edmonson) Austin in Best, Arkansas. She attended schools in Arkansas and South Dakota and eventually ended up back in Arkansas where she met and married Jackie Jack Thomas Robbins. From this marriage six children were born, three of which died shortly after birth.
Oma worked hard all of her life. She had worked as a waitress, cashier, food prep; and for the last thirty years, as a housekeeper and housekeeping supervisor. While employed as a housekeeping supervisor at Oklahoma State University, Oma received the Distinguished Service Award then later while employed at Stillwater Medical Center as the Environmental Services Manager, Oma was chosen as the Employee of the Month. Oma was very proud to receive these honors. She took pride in her work, always gave 100% and never asked anyone to do something she wouldnt do herself. Oma made friends everywhere she went and tried to make working a fun, positive environment.
When not working, Oma could be found at her son and grandsons high school football games, crocheting or cooking. Her homemade pecan, chocolate, and lemon meringue pies, along with her family favorite potato salad, were something everyone looked forward to. Although she had no special recipe, these tasty treats were something only Oma could perfect.
After 29 years together Oma and Jack divorced. Later on, because Oma found there were no places for middle-aged singles to mingle and have good old-fashion fun, she started a local singles club. From this club several marriages evolved. Eventually Oma met the love of her life, Paul Nation. They dated for a long time before getting married, but the marriage quickly ended after Paul developed an unexpected illness. Oma later married long-time friend, John Lee. This marriage later dissolved in a divorce yet they still remained good friends. They could even be found going to dinner together from time to time.
Oma is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents along with 3 brothers and 5 sisters, her 3 infant sons, J.J., Jackie Jr., and John Robbins, daughter Sherry Gordon, and husband Paul Nation.
Oma left her daughter and best friend, Jacklyn Simma and husband Steve; son Joel Robbins and wife Carol Sue, and grandson Michael Gordon. She is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer and Shane Simma, Carlee and Cammi Robbins, Joshua Gordon and great-granddaughter Alexis Anderson, and her best pet friend, Gracie, and many nieces and nephews.
Oma was an avid reader and would read just about anything that she could get her hands on (especially Christian Fiction). Therefore, it only seems fitting that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Perkins Public Library, Friends of the Library. Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.pmcfh.com
