Paul "Buck" Laverne Rogers

Paul Laverne “Buck” Rogers, 87, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 in Perry. Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday September 12, 2018 from 9am to 8pm with family greeting guests from 5-7pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Perry. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, south of Perry. Dighton Marler Funeral Home of Perry is entrusted with arrangements.
Buck was born on October 25, 1930 in Downing, Missouri to Paul Vincent and Ada Blanche (Carroll) Rogers. He received education in Missouri and Kansas schools.
Buck started employment in construction work in his early teens with Broce Construction Company of Dodge City, Ks and Woodward, Oklahoma. Various positions included truck driver, equipment operator and job superintendent for 40 years. He obtained his driver’s license at age 14, by falsifying documents, due to shortage of truck drivers during WWII. When he reached legal age he had to falsify documents again as the legal age had been raised.
He married Mary Ellen Stephenson on July 2, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Dodge City. They relocated to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1957 for the I-35 road project. He also lived briefly in Laverne, Hobart, and Bristow for road wok. He was employed for Material Producers, Inc. in Davis, Oklahoma as a rock crusher supervisor. He retired and lived in Perry. He served as Noble county District #3 County commissioners.
He believed in hard work and loyalty in daily living. He enjoyed helping neighbors and friends. He was baptized in Blackwell, Ok in 1958 at a spring revival. He participated with the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Unit out of Edmond on several trips. He attended First Baptist Church of Orlando and Perry. He was a 50 year member of the Perry Masonic Lodge #78.
His hobbies involved working on old trucks, hunting trips to Canada and Colorado. He enjoyed traveling in the RV and staying at area lakes. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Donna Mae Peters, and grandson Joshua Trey Rogers.
Buck is survived by his wife Mary at the homestead; children, Johnny Laverne and wife Denise, Valley Center, Kansas, Sherry Ann Lann of Cushing, Renee and husband Ray Kinnunen of Perry, Robyn Lyn Wolfe of Stillwater, Will Leroy and wife Dana of Perry; his brother Donald Dean and wife Patricia of OKC, and sister Carroll Kruetzr of Great Bend, Kansas; granddaughters, Regina, Melissa and Aften; grandsons, Joel, Cory, Ben, Bret, Ryan, Landon and Eli, as well as several great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Unit, c/o Dighton Malrer Funeral Home, 203 Fir St. Perry, Oklahoma 73077.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff of Perry Green Valley Nursing Home and Perry Memorial Hospital for their loving care.
Remembrances and refreshments will be held after the graveside service at Rosemary Ridge on Highway 51.
