Phillip Ed Paulin

September 16, 1924 — March 1, 2008

Service will be held Wednesday at 2:00pm at Sunnybrook Christian Church. Interment will be held on Friday in Carlisle, Kentucky. Philip Ed Paulin, 83, passed from this life on March 1, 2008, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Ed was born September 16, 1924, in Ironton, Ohio, to Philip and Jennie (Lieder) Paulin. He graduated from Ironton, High School in 1942 and immediately began his sportscasting career with station WCMI in Ashland, Kentucky. Ed left WCMI in 1944 to serve in the U.S. Army for three years, where he wrote, produced, and announced radio shows for the Army stateside. Ed married the love of his life, Adalene Micki Cartmill, on June 16, 1949. Ed and Micki celebrated 58 years of marriage in June of 2007. Together, Ed and Micki began their storied journey through a life of radio excellence. After 24 years of service in Ashland, Kentucky, at station WCMI, Ed took a job at station WMRN in Marion, Ohio, where he became a well-known and beloved broadcaster of high school basketball games and Marion Barons hockey team games. While in Ohio, Paulin was recognized as Ohios Top Sports Broadcaster in 1960. In 1966, Eds life took a different direction when he entered the University of Kentucky and graduated with a B.A. degree. While in Kentucky, Ed answered an ad to become general manager of KOSU-FM, a brand new radio station on the campus of Oklahoma State University and Oklahomas first NPR affiliate. Ed assumed that position in 1971 and he and Micki moved to Stillwater. Having completed his M.A. degree from the University of Kentucky by correspondence in 1975, Ed began teaching broadcasting courses at OSU. He was appointed chairman of the OSU Radio-TV-Film Department, a position he held until 1984. Teaching then became his full-time interest. During those years he continued his education, completing his doctors degree in 1979. While he was in charge of the internship program in his department at OSU, a special source of pleasure for Dr. Paulin was placing interns and graduates in broadcasting positions around the country. Subsequently, keeping up with his former students as they progressed in their careers brought him great pride and joy. In 1982, Governor George Nigh declared Ed Paulin Day in Oklahoma in recognition of the 40th anniversary of Paulins involvement with broadcasting.
