Phillip Edward Starrett

January 15, 1953 — April 17, 2015

Phillip Edward "Speedy" Starrett, 62, of Perry, Oklahoma passed away at his residence on Friday, April 17th, 2015. Arrangements are under the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 2:00pm at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Albert Quick officiating. Phillip was born on January 15, 1953 in Bartlesville, OK to Charles and Bonnie (Robinson) Starrett. He grew up in the Cleveland area and attended his schooling there. He received his high school diploma in 1971. After his school was done, Phillip served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp for five years. He was recognized in his marksmanship and also trained as a diesel mechanic. Phillip met many people and made many friends, from across the United States while serving and was proud of all veterans who gave so much. After serving his country, Phillip met his first wife, Audrey Marie Starrett and married on May 20, 1980 in Miami, OK. They spent 21 loving years together, before her passing in 2001. Phillip thought he would not find love again, until he met Sharon. They met and fell in love instantly. They married on January 1, 2002 in Sapulpa, OK. They cherished every moment together. Phillip was a man who had to be outdoors as much as possible. He worked as a driller in the oil field, a welder for Ditch Witch, an independent truck driver and lastly a journeymen pipefitter, but he was a jack of all trades. There was no problem that he could not fix. When he was away from work, he would be found fishing, gardening, playing his guitar on the back porch and being entertained by his pets; Jack the donkey, Reesey the dog and Nubby the cat. Phillip was known around his house as the "Turtle Sniper". He would sit on his back porch and shoot those turtles in his pond several hundred yards out without missing. Phillip really enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids. He taught them what he knew and made sure they had everything they could possibly need. Phillip was a great son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by all. Phillip was preceded in death by both his parents, Charles and Bonnie Starrett; wife, Audrey Marie Starrett, and one brother, Rob Starrett. He is survived by his second wife, Sharon (Aab) Starrett; seven children, Bobby and Sherri Mills of Lebanon, MO, Lisa and Chris Hills of Enid, Mike Mills of Oklahoma City, Scott and Vallerie Mills of Stillwater, Jeromy and Brandy Aab of Tulsa, Joshua and Lea Shane of Tulsa, and Marcus and Courtney Kozikuski of Perry; two siblings, Charlit Roe of Cleveland and Roy Starrett of Cleveland. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or St. Jude"s, in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry, 203 E. Fir Street Perry, OK 73077 Online condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.perrycares.com.
