Prince Darling Hixson

Prince Darling Hixson, a longtime Yale resident and well known local rancher, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 in his home near Yale, OK at the age of 80 years.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale, OK and will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the Church of God in Yale, OK with Pastor Mike Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawson Cemetery, Yale, OK.
The son of the late Tom Hixson and Rebecca (Ellis) Hixson, Prince was born on March 2, 1930 near Arnett, OK. He grew up in Arnett, moving to Yale at the age of 17 to live with his brother, Homer. Prince entered into the United States Army, where he served until receiving his honorable discharge. Prince then returned to Yale where he has lived ever since.
Prince had farmed and ranched in the Yale area for many years, running livestock, cropland, and pastureland. He was the Bankers Winner in 1992, was the Stillwater News Press Stockman of the Month in March of 1974, and had also received a 50 Year Certificate of Appreciation from the Pawnee County Conservation District in October of 2008. Anyone who knew Prince, knew that farming was his lifelong passion and he shared it with his wife and children.
Prince was united in marriage to Eulene Dobson on March 15, 1975 in Claremore, OK and they made their home in Yale.
Prince loved to sing and play the guitar. He entertained for over 50 years but most will remember him from his days with the band, Oklahoma Travelers. They played all around the Yale area, including, Ripley, the Cimarron Ball Room in Stillwater, and in Morrison.
His hobbies included work. Riding horses while working and riding 4 wheelers while working. Prince believed in a good hard days work that started before dawn and ended well after dark. He will be remembered as one of the last Original Cowboys.
Survivors include his wife Eulene of the home; four children, Gary Hixson and his wife Laura of Cameron, TX, Shirley Caddell and her husband Bill of New Boston, TX, Clint Hixson and his wife Debbie of Yale, and Tracy Hixson and his wife Susan of New Boston, TX; four step-children, Mary Sue Cude and her husband Gary of Yale, Peggy K. Newton and her husband Skip of Glencoe, OK, Candy Lynn Overholt and her husband Mark of Oakdale, CA and Robert Earl Morris and his wife Paula of Yale; one brother, Paul Hixson and his wife Betty of Wichita, KS; one sister, Clara DuBois of Colorado Springs, CO; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Prince was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
