Graveside services for former Stillwater resident Joseph Richard Gruhlkey will be Friday, November 27, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, north of Ripley, OK. Services will be officiated by Leo Presley of Stillwater and Rick Prevost of Bakersfield, CA. Public viewing/visitation will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from 3:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater.
Richard was born on January 22, 1925 in Clovis, NM to Arthur and Helen E. Gruhlkey. He married Charlotte Bridge on November 3, 1973 in Stillwater where they resided until 2003. He retired from the OSU Chemistry Department after 25 years of service. He was an active long time member of the Southside Baptist Church before becoming a member of Eagle Heights Baptist Church. Richard went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 23, 2009 in Burleson, TX at the age of 84 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son; and a great grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Charlotte of Burleson, TX; son, Keith Gruhley of Catoosa, OK; daughters, Carol Holloway and husband Bill of Stillwater, OK, Anita Prevost and husband, Rick of Bakersfield, CA, Thea Smith and husband, Ted of Tulsa, OK, Brenda Williams and husband, Jerry of Burleson, TX, and Donna Wehr-Zukosky of Ripley, OK; sister, Helen Bagget of Amarillo, TX; two nephews; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Casket bearers will be Keith Gruhlkey, Nathaniel Prevost, Peter Prevost, Bill Holloway, Brian Holloway, and Jerry Williams.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all the staff at Covenant Place Retirement Home and Accolade Hospice in Burleson for their continued love, care, and support; as well as all of his friends.
The family would like to extend an invitation to visit immediately following the graveside services at Donnas home, which is approximately 1 miles from the cemetery.
