Stellena Danley

September 5, 1940 — January 29, 2015

Stellena Danley, 74, of Stillwater, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan 29, 2015 at her home in Stillwater, OK. Services have been entrusted to the staff of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a service celebrating her life will be held at 11am on Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Glencoe First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery in Glencoe, OK. Public visitation will be held from 2pm -7pm on Sunday, February 1st.
Stellena was born on Sept 5, 1940 in Bennington, OK to Roy and Maudeen (Booth) Smith. She grew up and attended schools in Frederick, OK. During her senior year she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Danley. Stellena and Jim moved to Texas where they had three wonderful children together: James Blair, Victoria, and Julie Danley. She spent a few years working in retail sales before returning to Frederick to be near her family. While in Frederick, Stellena worked at Central Leather Goods, Schlegels, and the Frederick Nursing Home, where she worked as a CNA, a certification she worked very hard to earn. Her failing health forced her into an early retirement in the late 1990s.
Stellena moved to Stillwater, OK to be closer to her daughter Julie and became a resident of Grace Living Center. She made many wonderful friends at Grace and considered them to be her second family. Stellena was very active at Grace and considered herself to be one of the staffs favorite residents and this was confirmed when they voted her Valentine Queen, and honor she relished for years.
Stellenas faith in Christ was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Frederick, where she occasionally played piano for their Sunday morning worship. She later became a member of the Tesca Baptist Church in Frederick. She loved to read her Bible and was also very involved in the weekly Bible study at Grace Living Center. Stellena enjoyed listening to gospel music and taught herself to play the piano by ear. She was also a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. She always had a love for flowers and sewing and she spent many nights sewing clothing for her three kids when they were younger.
Stellena Danley was a kind and generous woman who had a gentle spirit and a quiet strength. Her sweet and personable disposition made it easy for her to make friends and also made her a wonderful mother. She spent the majority of her life as a single parent working 2 or 3 jobs to provide for her children and although she struggled at times and sometimes went without, you would never know because she never complained and always had a beautiful smile.
The family would like to thank the caring nurses, administrators, and staff of Grace Living Center for the kindness and compassion they have shown to Stellena over the past few years. They would also like to thank Good Shepherd Hospice for the wonderful care they have provided.
Stellena was preceded in death by her parents, a sister LaJoanna Archuleta and two infants siblings Alfred and Essie Smith, and a daughter-in-law Stephanie Danley. She is survived by her children James Blair Danley of Cleveland, TX, Victoria Lynn Brumley and husband Rick of Stonewall, LA, and Julie Snider and husband Tim of Glencoe, OK. Six grandchildren: Beth Pierce, Hanna Barr, Ellis Brumley, Aubrey Snider, Lillie Snider, Samuel Snider, and a step grandson Rudy. She also has five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Hartford Smith and wife Betty of Balch Springs, TX, Ferman Smith and wife Betty of Granbury, TX, and Debra McDowell and husband Richard of Colbert, OK.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home 5106 N. Washington. Stillwater, OK 74075
