Tommy Dancer

Tommy Dale Dancer, 67 of Perry, passed away on Tuesday, October 01, 2013 at his home in Perry. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Tommy was born on February 16, 1946 in Boswell, Oklahoma to the late Alton Lee and Mable Ruth (Bryan) Dancer. He grew up in Sulfur, Oklahoma and attended Sulfur High School where he received his diploma in 1964. After graduating high school, Tommy enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he honorably served his country for six years. Following his honorable discharge, Tommy returned to Sulfur to work as a diesel mechanic and truck driver. Tommy relocated to Perry and where he worked for Smith Trucking, R. L. Fraileys, Morrows Concrete/ Perry Ready Mix, H.E.W., and the Debord Farm.

Tommy was a hard worker and received many awards for his truck driving abilities. Tommy was known for in the trucking community for having the cleanest truck and was always willing to fit into a tight space to make repairs on his friends trucks. Tommy took great pride in sharing his cab with his best friend and pet Lil Bit. Tommy was a laid back, easy going guy who would spend time at the lake with friend Leonard Emmons and Lil Bit. Tommy and Leonard would spend many afternoons reliving old times and talking about the good old days. When they couldnt get out to the lake, Tommy and Lil Bit would stay in and watch the western channel or old western movies.

Survivors include his children Cheryl Jeter of Perry, OK, Shirley Battles and husband Mark of Blackwell, OK, Junior Nida and wife Kathy of Perry, OK, Hank Nida of Perry, OK, Ethel England and husband Stan of Montrose, CO, Willy Nida of Lexington, OK, brother Leroy Dancer of Ada, OK, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn; parents Alton Lee and Mable Ruth (Bryan) Dancer; step-daughter Nancy Smith; step-son Kenneth Nida.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to American Cancer Society.
