VERA (WALKER) DYESS LEAGUE Funeral services for Vera (Walker) Dyess League, age 78, of Perry, Oklahoma are scheduled for 2:30 P.M., Saturday, December 22, 2007, at the Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Aaron Summers and Kent Ritchie officiating. Interment will be in the Ripley Oak Park Cemetery at 4:30 P.M., Saturday, December 22, 2007. Ms. League was born on January 15, 1929, to Lee Roy and Luella (Topper) Walker in Ripley, Oklahoma. She grew up in Ripley, Oklahoma and later moved to California graduating in Delano, California. She married Oather Dyess and they had a son Leon Thomas Dyess, while residing in California. They returned to Ripley, Oklahoma in 1960 to care for her Grandmother Topper. The family later resided in Red Rock and Marland. Her husband passed away May 30, 1966, and was buried in Ripley. She married Modrick League in January 1969 and they resided in Farmers Branch, Texas. Mr. League died in August of 2000. Vera moved back to Perry in 2004 to be closer to her son and his family. Vera was a "jack of all trades". She owned her own accounting and tax business, loved to crochet, and spoiling her grandchildren was always a top priority. There was never a job too big or too small and she accepted every challenge with open arms. Vera went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 20, 2007, at Perry Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her son, Leon Dyess and wife Mary Jane of Perry; grandson, Jeffrey Dyess and wife Holly of Perry; granddaughter, Tonia Barber and husband Scott of Perry; great-grandchildren, Destiny Dyess, Hunter Dyess, Brooklyn Mills, Kayla Barber, and Scott Barber Jr., all of Perry; two sisters-in-law, Mary Walker of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Billie Walker of Texas; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and three brothers, Loren, twin brother Vern, and Howard. Condolences may be sent using our online guestbook at www.perryfuneralh.com.
