Vicki Jo Shirley

Vicki Jo Shirley, 65, of Perkins, passed from this life on Thursday, July 12, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perkins and will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel at 304 N. Main in Perkins, OK
Vicki was born on October 29, 1946 in Stillwater, OK to Darl and Dorothy (Evans) Cottman. When she was 12 yrs old she moved with her family to Ft. Smith, AR. She graduated from Ft. Smith High School and attended a Vo-tech school in Pine Bluff, AR. While in Pine Bluff, Vicki met the love of her life, Les Shirley and on June 3, 1976 they were married. Vicki moved back to Stillwater, OK to be closer to her family. She attended Oklahoma State University and later transferred to Rose State College to complete her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. In 1980, Vicki and Les relocated to Perkins, OK, where they currently reside.
Vicki worked as a Registered Nurse at Logan County Medical Center, Cushing Regional Hospital, Stillwater Medical Center, and Childrens Hospital in Oklahoma City. She also served as the Director of Nursing for Stillwater Nursing Home and spent many years working in home health care with Judith Karman Hospice, Home Call Hope Health Care and Faith/Image Hospice. Nursing was Vickis passion and she enjoyed more than 20 years of treating patients before her retirement in 2007.
Vicki Shirley was a woman of faith who loved to cook, spend time with her family and Chihuahuas, and collect angels and beanie babies. She was a loving wife, a caring mother and grandmother, a dedicated nurse and a loyal friend. She will be missed by many, but her legacy of love and caring will live on through the lives of her family, friends, and the many patients that she has cared for over the years.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Michael Wayne Cottman, and a daughter Shelley Williams. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Les Shirley. Two children: Tashia Williams and boyfriend Johnny Bruce of Perkins, OK and Bobby Shirley and wife Alisa, of Jefferson, AR. One sister: Beverly Haston and husband Darrell, of Stillwater, OK. Four grandchildren: Hailey Williams and Marc Williams of Perkins, OK and Miles Shirley and Kaylin Shirley of Jefferson, AR; and step mother Gerri Cottman.
