Wanda Lee Haskins

April 23, 1927 — April 8, 2011

Wanda Lee (Neighbors) Haskins, a longtime Mehan resident, passed away on April 8, 2011. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home and will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Mt. Hope Cemetery near Ripley.
Wanda was born on April 23, 1927 in Bristow, Oklahoma to O.H. and Tressie (Hammond) Neighbors. She grew up in Oklahoma and on July 31, 1943 married the love of her life Ewel Haskins, a union that lasted over 65 years. Upon Ewels return from WWII, they established their home in the Ada area near family. They moved their family to Cushing in 1964. She worked as a clerk at C.R. Anthonys. Wanda was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Cushing, and later attended Mehan Union Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She also avidly supported Ripley sports where she is fondly remembered as Grandma Wanda. In 1995, she even received the #1 fan award from the baseball team. She never missed a game, and brought ham sandwiches for all the boys to eat, as well as a sack of bubblegum because she didnt want the boys chewing tobacco. In her spare time she was a master seamstress, sewing, crocheting, and making her own patterns. Wanda also enjoyed reading and movies (especially musicals). By the time of her passing she had accumulated a massive collection of feature films. Wanda also loved to cook, especially for her son-in-laws, but nobody wanted to miss dinner time because she would feed the leftovers to Ewels hunting dogs right after the meal. She loved her grandchildren, and will be remembered as caring, family-oriented woman.
Wanda is survived by two daughters; Diana and her husband Glen Spiva of Ripley, and Debbie and her husband Bill Barrett of Cushing; seven grandchildren Ron Spiva and wife Jami, Brandon Spiva and wife Amy K., Sean Spiva and wife Amy J., Jennifer Bray and husband Tim, Tristan Robnett and Marie Knight, Mark Haskins and Lourfonda Slayton, and Brandi Haskins; and nineteen great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Ewel, brother Boyd J. Neighbors, son Doug Haskins, and grandson Riley Cole Haskins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Judith Karmen Hospice.
