Willeen Martin

March 23, 1926 — January 24, 2013

Willeen Martin, 86, of Stillwater, passed from this life on January 24, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock, OK. A public visitation will be held on Sunday, January 27 from 1:00-6:00pm at the funeral home.
Willeen Martin was born on March 23, 1926 in Shamrock, OK to James Homer Fountain and Hulda Estelle (Cope) Fountain. She was a graduate of the Shamrock High School Class of 1944. Following her graduation, she attended x-ray technician school at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa and went on to work for a brief time as an x-ray tech at Saint Johns Hospital. In January of 1948, Willeen married a longtime family friend, William "Buddy" Martin. In 1949, the couple had John William Martin, the first of two sons. In 1954, the Martin's had their second son, James D. Martin. In 1955, "Buddy" passed away and Willeen boldly set out on her own to raise her two sons.
Willeen spent several years working as an administrative aid at Shamrock Elementary. In the early 70's, she went to work at the Drumright Tag Agency. In the early 80's, Willeen relocated to Cushing, OK and remained employed at the Tag Agency for nearly 20 years before retiring in the early 90's. Following her retirement, she moved to Fairfax, OK to be near her family and to assist in the family business, Martin Medical. In December of 2012, she joined her family in their relocation to Stillwater.
Willeen was a private person, but greatly enjoyed her affiliation with The Order of the Eastern Star, as well as her membership at Oak Street Baptist Church in Cushing, OK, First Baptist Church in Shamrock, OK and the First Osage Baptist Church in Fairfax, OK. She also enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, playing puzzles and word searches, and watching Wheel of Fortune religiously. She was never happier then when she was surrounded by her children and especially her grandchildren. Willeen was a kind and loving woman who was known to be a bit stubborn and strong willed, but always caring and intelligent. She will be missed by many.
Willeen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Martin, and two brothers: James H. Fountain Jr. and Harry Fountain. She was also preceded in death by two infant brothers: Gene and Lindy.
She is survived by her two sons: John Martin and wife Shelia, of Cushing, OK and James D. Martin and wife Sue, of Stillwater, OK. 5 grandchildren: Andrea Hanson, Jennifer Martin, Sarah Dorsey, Rebecca McLaughlin, and Lindsey Carter, as well as 7 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Willeens honor to the First Osage Baptist Church or the American Heart Association in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075
