Willema Sue Farmer, 62, of Stillwater, passed from this life June 22, 2011, surrounded by those she loved. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 27, 2011 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Stillwater, OK. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from noon to 5pm.
Sue was born on January 15, 1949 in Atoka, OK to Leonard Lee and Willie Emma Wyse. Her family resided in Coal County for 10 years before moving to Tulsa. Sue finished her schooling in Tulsa and went on to Oklahoma State University. After a short time in Stillwater, Sue moved to Norman, Oklahoma and accepted a civilian job at Tinker Air Force Base as an administrative assistant. While at Tinker, Sue met the love of her life, Calvin Farmer. They married and began raising their family together.
In 1977, the Farmers moved back to Coal County. Sue worked as the assistant manager the Phillips-Haney Lumber in Coalgate for several years before the family relocated to the Cushing/Drumright area. Sue worked in management at Hughes Lumber for several years. Sue and Calvin eventually settled in Stillwater where they have lived since 1988.
Sue was very active in the Stillwater business community. She managed Hughes Lumber before operating her own business, Stillwater Appraisal Service. For the past 10 years, she has worked as an administrative assistant for Charles Frank Homebuilders. She was also an active member of the Stillwater Business Womens Association.
When Sue was not working, she enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, remodeling her home, studying her Native American ancestry and culture, taking evening drives, taking care of anyone and everyone, and playing Yahtzee with Calvin. Sue always won.
Her true passion in life was caring for children. This was evident in the hours she spent volunteering as a childrens advocate for C.A.S.A. as well as the time she spent loving and pampering her 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Sue Farmer was a loving wife, an incredible mother, a caring grandmother, a dedicated employee, and a loyal friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Sue is survived by her husband Calvin, of the home. Three sons: Adam and Jason Carroll and Bryan Keith Farmer, all of Stillwater. Three daughters: Ricki Wells, of Oklahoma City, OK, Denise Jones of Houston, TX, and Nancy Medlin, of Waggoner, OK. One Brother: Dr. John Linton, of Claremore, OK. Two sisters: Lennie Wineberger of Houston, TX and Patsy Hecker of Stillwater, OK. She is also survived by her 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Senator Billie Joe Wisdom, of Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sues name to C.A.S.A in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home 5106 N. Washington. Stillwater, OK 74075.
