William "Bill" Harvey Womack

December 23, 1941 — September 1, 2018

Long-time Stillwater resident and retired SFD Assistant Chief, William H. Womack (Bill) passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Bill, 76, passed away as a result of a tractor accident on his cattle farm southeast of Stillwater. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 11:00am at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dighton-Marler Funeral Home.

Bill was born in Maysville, Oklahoma to John and Anice Womack on December 23, 1941, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Rocky, OK, High School, later entering the United States Army. While he was in the Army he married Janet Lavigne in El Centro, California, on July 16, 1963. After he completed his military service, the two moved to Stillwater, OK, so that Bill could enter Oklahoma State University to study agronomy. In late 1967, he joined the Stillwater Fire Department and rose through the ranks to become the Department’s Assistant Fire Chief. He retired from the SFD on September 30, 1994.

Bill pursued his love of agriculture with his Angus cattle operation. He developed a feeding program to ensure his herd was healthy and that his calves thrived and grew out to their full potential. Fertilizing and weed control of his grassland was very important to him, and his fences were well mended as he always took care of them.

His hobbies included reading, bass fishing, raising register quarter horses, and exhibiting cutting horses through many states. He was a long time member of the National Cutting Horse Association. He is also a member of the American Angus Association.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife of the home, Janet and six siblings: Leland Womack of Sentinel, OK; Betty Eskew (Bill), Wichita, KS; Georgia Reiter, Yukon, OK; Linda Davis (Don), Walters, OK; James Womack (Sharon), Del City, OK; and John Womack (Patty) , Clearwater, KS. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
