December 23, 1941 — November 12, 2014

Wilmer Dwayne Smith age 72 of Agra, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Cushing Regional Hospital in Cushing. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater, OK. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 17, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Carney. Interment will follow at Carney Cemetery, Carney, OK.

Wilmer was born on December 23, 1941 in Madera, California to the James Wilber and Freida (Sipe) Smith. He grew up in the Tryon/Carney area, graduating from Lake Valley School in Washita County in 1959. He became a member of the Christian Church where he was baptized as a child. Wilmer married the love of his life, Rosa Arganbright on October 17, 1959. Wilmer entered the U.S. Navy on June 28, 1959 serving his country proudly for over twenty years, retiring in 1980.

After retirement, he worked in Alaska as a correctional officer for several years. In 2000 he moved to the Carney/Agra area where he enjoyed gardening, his computer, and was an avid reader. One of the biggest joys in his life was teasing his grandchildren. Wilmer was also a member of the VFW in Chandler.

He is survived by his wife Rosa of the home, daughter Lisa Donovan and husband Scott of Carney, son Chris Smith of Holdenville, brothers and sisters Danny Smith and wife Louise of Perkins, Patty Harris and husband Gary of Choctaw, Sandra Dale of Purcell, James Smith and wife Liz of Maud, Debbie Jarvis of Noble, brothers and sisters-in-law Don Starling of Carney, Carolyn Smith Sellers of Owasso, Dennis Griffith of Yukon, Lori Smith of Holdenville, grandchildren Bryan Donovan, Mathew Donovan and wife April, Jordan Payne and husband Jacob, Brice Smith, Braydon Donovan, Beth Donovan, Allison Smith and great grandchild Caleb Siegrist.

Wilmer is preceded in death by his parents, James Wilber and Freida Smith; three brothers: Larry Eugene Smith, Don Smith, Terry Smith, sisters Phyllis Starling and Jane Griffith, brother-in-law Roger Jarvis, nephew Danny Ray Starling and niece Tracy Martin.
