Stillwater, Oklahoma

Alva Fred Cole, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Born on October 28, 1946, in Clinton, Oklahoma to Alva Allen Cole and Mary Ethel (Mastin) Cole.  Fred’s life journey was one marked by dedication, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his family and faith.

Fred grew up in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where he attended school and graduated in 1964. Demonstrating a love for service early in life, he joined the United States Army in 1966 and served honorably until his discharge on October 24, 1969. His time in the military shaped him deeply, reinforcing values of discipline, integrity, and devotion.

In 1976, Fred embarked on a new chapter, becoming the Manager of Dunlap Sporting Goods in Oklahoma City. His passion and vision led to an expansion from one store to three locations, showcasing his entrepreneurship and leadership. Four years later, in 1980, Fred took a courageous step and established his own sporting goods business. Yet, amid his success in the sporting goods field, he felt a higher calling. Sensing God’s guidance, he sold his enterprise and purchased a farm in Perkins, Oklahoma, dedicating himself fully to evangelical ministry and missions. Fred embraced this sacred purpose with the same love and devotion that defined every facet of his life.  He was a member of World Harvest Church in Stillwater.

Known widely for his loving and kind nature, Fred’s warmth touched all who knew him. His generosity, gentle spirit, and steadfast faith left an indelible mark on his community and all whose lives he entered.

Fred is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shelley, whose partnership and support were constants in his life. He is also survived by his daughter, Mary Anne Cantwell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and son, Tom Cole of Faye, Oklahoma. Their family grew richly with three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom were sources of immense joy for Fred. His sister, Katherine Sinner of Westlake Village, California, also survives him, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of cherished friends who hold his memory close in their hearts.

Fred’s parents, Alva Allen Cole and Mary Ethel (Mastin) Cole, preceded him in death, having laid the foundation of love and faith that sustained him throughout his life.
