Arthur George Robinson (Art/A.G.) Robinson, retired Director of Student Services at the University of Central Oklahoma, passed from this life on January 16, 2021. A resident of Glencoe, Oklahoma, he was 79 years old.
Born to Arthur Gibbs and Lynn Dooley Robinson on January 14, 1942 at home in rural Pawnee County, Oklahoma, he attended Lone Jack and Prosperity, one-room country schools in Pawnee County, for his first eight years. He graduated as the salutatorian of the Pawnee High School class of 1960.
His education at Oklahoma State University was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966. After his basic training in Fort Polk, Louisiana, he served the remainder of his two years at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, California. He returned to OSU and obtained a BS in Mathematics.
An inquisitive man of gentle spirit and disposition, Art worked his entire career in support of higher education. Not long after college graduation, he became the OSU Book Store Assistant Manager. While there, he continued his quest for knowledge by taking numerous computer classes. Robinson later moved on to Edmond and became the Book Store Manager at University of Central Oklahoma. He rose in ranks to become Director of Student Services in 1993, a position he held until his retirement in June 1998.
After that, he moved to his acreage between Stillwater and Glencoe. Art loved to read and was very fascinated with computers—he tried many of them. The latest in his collection was a Raspberry. Family was always important to him and he was the keeper of family genealogy. The extended Robinson family depended on him to send out emails to keep everyone connected. He was a caring person. It is rumored he lost his temper one time, but there are no living witnesses to the purported event.
He is survived by six siblings: Ray (Marie) Robinson, Carol (Lee) Bledsoe, James (Sue) Robinson, Jackie (Mark) Darrah, Freddie G. Robinson and Ronnie (Kate) Robinson. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, four aunts, cousins and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Roy and David (Bear). David was like a son to Art and lived with him during his junior high and high school years. He was also preceded by special sister-in-law Kathy Robinson who watched closely over his well-being. His nephews Mark, Jeff and Brice Robinson, Jake Houser, nieces Angelia Robinson Laurent and Donna Quinn, and great-great nephew Joseph Scholey also preceded him in death.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Traditions Hospice of Chandler, Oklahoma for their gentle care during his final days.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Glencoe South Cemetery, Glencoe, Oklahoma.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, you honor Art with a donation to your favorite charity.
Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater, Oklahoma is in charge of the arrangements.
