Carrol Ann Piel

August 24, 1943 — March 30, 2024

Perry

Saturday, March 30, Carrol Ann Piel, surrounded by loved ones, went to be with our Lord and Savior. Born August 24, 1943, in St Louis, Missouri, as the only child to Virginia Ann (Voss) Baker and Edward Britton Baker, she moved to Oklahoma at a young age for her father's work in the oil field.

His work led them to a few towns across Oklahoma including Seminole and Duncan before settling in Perry, her freshman year in High School. It was at that time she first became active in the Christ Lutheran Church of Perry where she met Allen Piel in youth fellowship. She graduated from Perry High in 1961. September 29, 1961, she married the love of her life, with whom she welcomed two daughters in 1962 and 1964. While Allen was in the Air Force, Carrol was a stay-at-home military wife who followed her husband to different bases in the United States including her favorite, Tucson, Arizona, where they spent many years.

Following his military career, Allen and Carrol relocated their family back to Perry Oklahoma where they resumed their activity in the Lutheran Church. Carrol loved Hallmark so much that she opened a store on the square for 9 years in the late seventies into the eighties. You could always find her crafting in her spare time, and she could make anything from pillows to curtains to a full wardrobe of clothes. She also loved to paint and would donate her paintings to places like Perry Hospital to be displayed. Her painting wasn't limited to canvas as she painted ceramics and fabrics alike. Her craft room was always covered in projects but organized to the point of everything being labeled. She took pleasure in all that she did and when her granddaughter had children, she was happy to take care of the two girls as they grew up.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Carrol is survived by her husband, Allen Piel of the home, daughters Patricia Wilcox (David) and Shirley Piel, grandchildren April Blansett (Billy) and John Curtis (Stephanie), great grandchildren Britton, Braelynn, Naythyn and Kaleigha, as well as an extended family of step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her faith in the Lord was strong and she wanted those she left behind to rejoice and not be sad because she knew a better place was waiting for her.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, Perry, with Rev. John Wackler officiating.
