Dale Alger Cotton

January 23, 1926 — February 14, 2006

Dale Alger Cotton was born on January 23rd, 1926 to Harry Carmi and Goldie Beatrice (Berry) Cotton in Winfield, Kansas. Dale attended school at several locations including Council Valley School, Prairie View School, and Siloam Springs and graduated high school from Pontotoc, Oklahoma in 1943. He had worked on his parents farm until enlisting in the United States Army Air Corp in February, 1944. He served in the cadet training school and received an Honorable Discharge in October 1945. On August 13th, 1948, Dale was united in marriage to Allie Lou Miller in Yale, Oklahoma. He attended college at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, while he was enlisted in the service. He then enrolled at Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater where he graduated in 1949 with a degree in journalism. He would also go on to complete several courses in graduate school.
Dale worked at the Kingfisher Newspaper from January through June of 1949. He was then employed at the Enid Newspaper from June 1949 through June of 1959. He then became employed with the State Department of Vocational and Technical Education as assistant Executive Secretary of Oklahoma Future Farmers of America Association. Dale served as the Executive Secretary of the FFA from 1964 until 1967. He then served as a Career Information Officer at Vo-Tech until his retirement in January, 1986.
Dale enjoyed reading, writing, computering, riding motorcycles, working in his lawn, golf and target shooting. He was a member of Highland Park Free Will Baptist Church in Stillwater, The Golden K Kiwanis Club, The Oklahoma Vocational Education Association, The National Association of Vocational and Technical Education Communicators, The Christian Motorcyclist Association, The Oklahoma Sheriffs Association and The National Rifle Association.
Dale passed away on Tuesday, February 14th, 2006 at Stillwater Medical Center. He was 80 years old. He is survived by his wife, Allie, of the home; two daughters Dalene Louise Hamilton and husband John of Jenks, Oklahoma, Carla Jean Bridges and husband Jay of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one son, Michael Dale Cotton and wife Dolores of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Joshua Bridges, Kaitlyn and Caleb Cotton of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one sister, Norma Hill of Waller, Texas; one Aunt, Wanda Hart of Seaside, Oregon; one uncle, Lester Berry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Several Nieces and Nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Melva Wiley of Garden City Kansas.
Services for Dale will be held at Highland Park Freewill Baptist Church on Thursday, February 16th at 2:00 p.m. Norman Richmond will be officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 15th and from 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. on Thursday February 16th at Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Highland Park Freewill Baptist Church, 1402 E. 6th Ave. Stillwater, OK 74074.
