Danny Max Ferrell

Danny Max Ferrell, Christian, husband, father, grandfather, accountant and friend to so many in this community, left this earth on June 20, 2026, at the age of 75, surrounded by his family.

Danny was born on June 15, 1951, in Hardtner, Kansas, to Billy Leon and Ruth Evelyn Ferrell. At the time of his birth, the family lived on a farm near Capron, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of four boys, followed by Dennis and twin brothers, Monty and Mickey.

While his father worked for Boeing, the family lived in Wichita, Kansas, for about a year before returning to Alfalfa County, Oklahoma. Danny attended first grade in Amorita, and the family later settled on a farm south of Burlington, where he was raised and graduated from Burlington High School.During his high school years at Burlington, Danny played guitar in a rock band with friends, played basketball and ran cross country. He started going on wheat harvest the summer after he graduated from high school and continued until 1981. Danny and Dennis purchased a hay wagon and had a successful operation for years. He was a Beatles fan and collected every album when it came out.

After graduating, he attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell majoring in agronomy before continuing his education in Stillwater at Oklahoma State University College of Business, where he majored in Business Administration. While in Stillwater, he led worship at Backroom Chapel and opened University Book and Bible, a Christian bookstore on Knoblock Street. He later opened another Christian bookstore in Alva.

Early in their marriage, Danny and Denise lived in Farmington, Arkansas. Denise began her first teaching job. Danny worked cooking steaks in a local restaurant before they returned to Oklahoma where he cooked for the Big 8 Restaurant. Over the years he worked in bookkeeping, for TG&Y, in farming, and eventually became a Certified Public Accountant. He passed all sections of the CPA examination on his first attempt before opening his own practice in Stillwater. Later he owned a practice in Ponca City. He served as Chief Financial Officer for Kinnunen’s Sales and Rental, and finished his career with a CPA practice in Perkins. Being married to a teacher was a career in itself helping in many, many ways through the years.

Danny enjoyed working with people. Whether a client owned a large business or simply needed help preparing a tax return, he treated everyone with the same respect and care. Many clients became longtime friends.

He also gave back to his community by serving as treasurer for the Sangre Ridge PTA, the Stillwater Arts and Humanities Council, and the Stillwater Public Education Foundation.

Danny was a member of Sunnybrook Christian Church, where he led a Life Group for many years. He loved the Bible and especially enjoyed Men’s Connection on Saturday mornings.

Danny and Denise were married for 52 years. Together they enjoyed traveling, plays, concerts, movies, watching television series, taking drives, stopping at Sonic for a favorite drink. Taking walks together was a regular routine with the one who walked faster and longer changing over

time. They enjoyed celebrating special occasions at Cheevers and through the years it became a favorite place.

They enjoyed traveling together, making memories with their children and grandchildren in Colorado, San Antonio, Texas, Florida, California, New York, Boston, and Hawaii. They also treasured trips to Taos, New Mexico, and Alberta, Canada.

One of their favorite family memories was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Fredericksburg, Texas, where the children prepared delicious meals, watched the evening bat flight, and listened as their grandchildren sang to them from the home’s grand staircase.

Danny loved being Dad and Pops. As their children grew, he and Denise made every effort to attend football and basketball games, cheerleading events, theater productions, piano recitals, guitar and drum lessons, and youth group activities. All his grandchildren have memories of Pops hiding Easter eggs, reading books, playing or observing what they chose to do. He has been a Nutcracker and a cowboy character. He has the reputation of playing games to win.

Danny enjoyed growing tomatoes and peppers. He liked cooking breakfast in his cast-iron skillet, happily chopping vegetables, trying different spices, and adding plenty of hot sauce. He also enjoyed caring and preparing the pool for company to come and occasionally taking a swim himself.

Danny had a lifelong appreciation for classic cars. His first car was a 1957 Chevrolet that he often wished he had kept. Years later, Denise gave him a red 1961 Chevrolet Impala that had originally belonged to her father. Danny carefully directed its restoration, preserving it as a true classic.

He also enjoyed tackling projects, including building fences with his sons, and he had a reputation for never giving up when something was lost. Whether it was a document, a tool, or the answer to a problem, he kept looking until he found it.

Danny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Denise; children, Abe and Holland; grandchild Addy,children,Luke and Rhiannon and grandchildren Avery, Nolan, Olivia and Knox; children, Hollis Bernice and Karl and grandchildren Catherine Lee and Will and children Blake and Kristy and grandchildren Hattie, Claire, Ellie Kay and Roy his brothers and sister in laws Dennis and Diane, Monty and Linda and Mickey and Sheila along with many extended family members, friends, and clients. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad.

A celebration of Danny’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Sunnybrook Christian Church in Stillwater with a reception after.
