David L. Orr, born October 25, 1938 in Henderson, Texas, passed away peacefully in Perkins, Oklahoma on June 19, 2026. Throughout his eighty-seven years, David was a beacon of kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family and passions.
David’s early life was shaped by a unique and memorable upbringing. His father, Herman Orr, served as the sheriff of Rusk County, Texas during David’s high school years, and they lived in an apartment in the basement of the county courthouse. This distinctive childhood provided him with a foundation of resilience, a strong sense of justice, and a deep appreciation for community.
David was an avid lover of music from a young age. Among his cherished memories was witnessing Elvis Presley perform live at a local high school gym. He found great joy in singing with the choir, a pastime that brought him lifelong happiness. His curiosity and love for learning made him an enthusiastic reader, and he possessed a passion for sports, particularly anything related to the University of Oklahoma. Golf was another of his favorite pastimes, and he approached the game with the same enthusiasm he gave to all his pursuits.
What most defined David, however, were his relationships. Laughter, family, and friendship were the treasures of his life. He relished any opportunity to spend time surrounded by loved ones, lifting spirits with his humor and warmth.
A pivotal moment in David’s life came when he met Nancy, who would become his beloved wife, on a blind date at Texas Christian University. Their love endured and flourished through sixty-one years of marriage until Nancy’s passing. Together, they built a family grounded in love. David is survived by his son Russell Lee Orr and his wife Brunetta, his daughter Barbara Jones, his grandson Jordan Orr, and his granddaughter Hunter Lea Jones. He is preceded in death by his father Herman Orr, his mother Florence Orr, and his wife Nancy Orr.
David’s legacy is found in the enduring love he shared with his family, the laughter and joy he spread to his friends, and the unwavering values he upheld throughout his life. He leaves behind cherished memories and an example of a life well-lived.
